Abstract
This study was done to investigate the MMPI profile of patients with alcohol dependence, classified into voluntary
and involuntary admission group by discriminant function analysis. The 40 subjects were admitted to Wonkwang University
Neuropsychiatric Hospital from January 1991 to June 1997. They were diagnosed as alcohol dependence with DSM-¥²-R or DSM-¥³ criteria. All subjects were evaluated with MMPI. The results were as follows. 1) The MMPI profile of patients with alcohol dependence was 6-2 type. On MMPI, the alcohol dependence group showed significantly higher scores than nonalcoholic group in L, F, D and Pa subscales at the level of 1%, and Hy, Sc and Ma subscales at the level of 5%. 2) The MMPI profile of voluntary admitted group was 6-2 type but involuntary group was 6 type. 3) The cut-off raw score of eleven on K subscale classified 73% of the voluntary and involuntary admission group correctly. The cut-off raw score of five on L subscale classified 68% of the voluntary and involuntary admission group correctly. And the cut-off raw score of sixteen on L+K subscale classified 65% of the voluntary and involuntary admission group correctly. 4) Discriminant formula were D£½-1.58-0.34 (L)+0.06 (F-K)+ 0.10 (2), and the D score of zero classified into two groups at the 85% by discriminant fomula.
